Brain Injury Association of Virginia

Founded in 1983, the Brain Injury Association of Virginia (BIAV) is the only statewide non-profit organization in Virginia dedicated to serving individuals with brain injury, their families, and those that care for and about them. BIAV is a chartered state affiliate of the Brain Injury Association of America, and provides support and assistance to people with brain injury, educated the public on the risks and impact of brain injury, and advocated for legislation and improved medical and community based services.

Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley

Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley provides community-based services for individuals affected by brain injury in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Services may include: case management, community support services (life skills training), behavior support facilitation, education, outreach & advocacy, professional & case consultation. There is no cost to the individual for case management services. However, there are a limited number of slots available, and we are committed to serving those with the greatest need and the least resources first.

Brain Injury Services of SWVA

Founded in 2001, Brain Injury Services of Southwest Virginia offers free case management services, and additional services either at no cost or on a sliding scale. These include service coordination, independent living skills training, and social skills training. Their service area covers 11,000 square miles and operates from offices located in Abingdon, Blacksburg, Norton, Roanoke, Wytheville and Rocky Mount.

Brain Injury Services, Inc.

At any given time, BIS is helping approximately 700 individuals in the region manage the challenges of living with a brain injury.

NeuroRestorative Virginia - Blacksburg

Located in the Virginia Tech community,  participants have access to community resources, and are offered a variety of rehabilitation programs and support services.  This facility is in a quiet neighborhood setting next to one of Blacksburg’s town parks. Recreational therapy opportunities are available. 

Programs available: neurorehabilitation, neurobehavioral, supported living, day treatment, in-home, respite, transitional living, inpatient assessment, supported & transitional services, structured day program, supported transitional services.

Riverside Rehabilitation Institute

Riverside Rehabilitation Institute (RRI) is a 50-bed physical rehabilitation facility in Newport News, Virginia. It is licensed by the State of Virginia and nationally accredited by the Joint Commission organization. RRI treats brain injury, as well as other serious illnesses and conditions.  RRI offers both inpatient and outpatient programs.  Inpatients are accepted on a referral basis.  Outpatient services are offered on the hospital campus at Shoreview Outpatient Clinic, and an off-campus site in Williamsburg, VA.

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at The Up Center

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at the Up Center, provides high-quality, accessible, and integrated mental health care to Veterans and their families regardless of role, discharge status, or ability to pay. The Cohen Clinics are Veterans Choice Providers and use evidence-based practices to improve the quality of life for Veterans and their families. Services are provided by credentialed staff trained to work specifically with the military population.

Tree of Life

Tree of Life is dedicated to providing persons with acquired brain injury (ABI) comprehensive, post-acute, transdisciplinary neurorehabilitation in a community setting. They offer specialized, community-based services to meet their clients' needs, providing various levels of client support. The services at Tree of Life include 24-hour care and supervised, assisted living in modern homes designed for those with cognitive, behavioral and physical challenges. Their transitional as well as supported living accommodations facilitate each client's experience and outcome.

Virginia Commonwealth University Traumatic Brain Injury Model System

The VCU Model System of care provides coordinated inpatient and outpatient care for persons with traumatic brain injury (TBI).  The system includes emergency medical services; early intensive and acute medical care; comprehensive rehabilitation services; and long-term rehabilitation follow-up.
