JFK-Johnson Rehabilitation Institute TBI Model System

Through a continuum of care that extends from acute comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation to subacute inpatient rehabilitation to outpatient cognitive rehabilitation, the Center for Head Injuries applies an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to treat all levels of acquired brain injury. Each level in the continuum is designed to provide a comprehensive, cost-effective, progressive flow of treatment for each patient’s individual needs.

Patients may enter the continuum of care at whatever level is appropriate for their specific clinical needs, and may move to other treatment levels during the course of their treatment.

Patients who have sustained brain injuries have a broad range of needs. To address them, the Center offers a variety of specialized services at the central New Jersey location, including but not limited to:

  • Rehabilitation medicine
  • Rehabilitation nursing
  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech therapy
  • Recreation therapy
  • Neuropsychological evaluations
  • Audiology
  • Vocational rehabilitation
  • Community re-entry
  • Nutrition services
  • Social work services

Supportive counseling and education is also available to help patients and their families plan for the future and enhance the quality of life following an acquired brain injury.
